Biodynamic farming and sustainable gardening practices

While biodynamic, organic and sustainable gardening have become popular in the last few years, we have focused on these methods from the beginning.

  • We view our farm as a diverse “organism”, incorporating Biological Diversity, Crop Rotation, and Permaculture growing into every aspect of the farm.
  • We combine livestock management, composting, cover cropping, and variety selection to maintain healthy soil fertility.
  • We raise animals humanely and treat them as an integral part to the farm. Providing them open and protected spaces in which to live. We feed and care for them with out the use of antibiotics, genetically modified foods and synthetic pesticides.
  • We use biodynamic preparations to improve the health and vigor of the soil and whole farm.
  • We manufacture a large percentage of our fuel in the form of waste vegetable oil biodiesel and farm grown ethanol.
  • All of our buildings have been constructed and retrofitted for energy efficiency and reduced dependence on off-farm fuel.
  • All daily electricity is produced using renewable energy produced on the farm or supplied by PGE’s green energy program.
  • Our water is pumped using farm-generated solar power.
  • We are expanding our methane digester system to supply heat for our 3000 square feet of greenhouses.
  • 90% of our fertilizer is derived from compost made here on the farm.
