Animals and Eggs
Pork is in the share this week. In the recipe section, we have included a recipe for making Side Pork into an unsmoked bacon. This is one of Michaels favorite dishes. Egg wise, we have not been able to coax our chickens to lay again since their light burned out a few weeks back. It was not out for more than a few days but it was enough. They will start to lay again, and this period should not last more than another 2-4 weeks so; we hope to have eggs again by the December share delivery.
Herbs
Herbs look pretty good for this time of year. Mostly because we have not had any really hard frosts yet. In the share today, we have both bay and rosemary. We found a great recipe for mulled wine that included rosemare that is in the recipe section for today.
Honey
We harvested honey a week or so ago. We expected it to be in the share today, but, it was so cold outside when we were extracting the honey that we could not get it to flow from the extractor. So, we will pack up the honey for you and have it in the share next month.
Vegetables
Yukon gold potatos are in the share again and they are so good. We belive we have found the section of the farm where the brown rot is present. However, there may be a few tubers that have the disease. Remember, is you find a little rot just cut it out or throw it away. Don’t put the potato in your compost however as the virus is quite durrable. Finally, we recommend making pumpkin pie with your Sugar Baby pumpkins.
